1942 At the Folsom Correctional facility in California, the annual game between big leaguers and the prison inmates ends when the guards need to search for lifers Elvia E. Mead (murder) and Philip Gardner (burglary), who cut a hole through a fence during the game and swam down the American River for almost three hours before being apprehended. The suspended contest does not resume, with the visiting team ahead 24-5 at the end of seven innings.
