1959 In an exhibition game played at the Los Angeles Coliseum to benefit Roy Campanella, paralyzed in an auto accident before the team moved to the West Coast in 1958, the Yankees defeat the Dodgers, 6-2. The game begins when 93,103 fans, the largest crowd ever for a baseball game, witness Pee Wee Reese pushing the catcher, who uses a wheelchair, into the darkened stadium filled with light by fans holding candles or matches to start the emotional ceremony.
